"Maps
by NORM" is the decade long labor-of-love of Norm
Tomchak, a recently retired engineer on the D&H / CPR NEUS. With over 4000 hours
invested into this project, Norm has created maps that are more detailed
(and enjoyable!) then most the Railroad's Engineering Dept. uses on a daily
basis.Born in 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Norm started his railroad career late in life. With a degree in Electrical Contracting, he spent years as an electrician for MK Rail in Mountaintop, Pa. When the plant closed in 1994, he hired out with Conrail in 1995, working his way from Brakeman to Conductor to Engineer into the takeover of Conrail by the Norfolk Southern in 1999. Norm left the NS in 2000 and hired out with CP Rail as an engineer the same year. He is still working daily out of the Binghamton, NY Terminal. His map project began as a personal Railroad study guide while qualifying on Conrail in 1995. His goal was to supply maps that had more detail in one place than those supplied by the company in timetable's line drawing. Thankfully, we at ModernRailroading.com were able to convince Norm to allow us to publish his pet project into a website format and share it with the world. Thanks Norm... from all of us. Norm has finally retired and has set up shop to
do this type of detailed map creation for any railroad, large or small, on a contract basis.
