E-Timebook:

The program is very easy to use and is a real powerhouse! But like all programs, it has its grumpy side. If you've ever worked with MS Office Access you know that 99% of common errors are caused by the user not inputting the information correctly. The program is very smart... but if you don't follow some very simple rules for data input, the program will give you a "Does Not COMPUTE"!

The only really fussy part of the program is where calculations take place. All of the Logs and Diaries are straightforward. If you want to leave some information out, the program says "That's Cool" and doesn't care.

Fields where the program is looking to figure something out, like in the Trip Ticket and Train Consist Calculator, you have to pay very careful attention to several things.

1. If a field has a "0" in it when the form opens... and you don't change it to something else... then a "0" has to be in it before you can move on.

Example:

2. In the Trip Ticket, where you input the Pay Rate Code... you cannot attempt to edit the description of CLAIM NAME. You CAN, however, change the amount of the claim... great for Lost Earnings because it's always a different amount.

3. In that same section, if you start a new claim with a Pay Rate Code, you have to finish it. You must have a real or made-up code in that field before moving on. Once you are in a new Claim Line, simply go back and delete the screwed up one!

4. In the Trip Ticket, Dates and Times must be inputted in the format displayed above the field.

5. When you start a new form, Always start at the beginning and TAB or RETURN your way thru the form - Save before closing. When you open the form to update it, you are free to mouse your way to any field for editing.

6. If you start getting "Error Readings" or the program just closes, the odds are you did one of the above. Some of the information where the screw up took place may be missing, but most of the forms information should be auto-saved. Worst case scenario, follow the Escape Plan described in the In-Program Help Section.

FAQs

"I have a full version of Office Access. Can I use it to run the E-Timebook?"

YES. The program includes, upon installation, a licensed runtime version of Office Access 2003. If you have a full version of MS Office Access 2003, you may use it to run your E-Timebook. Most of the full versions' functions and views will not work because the database is locked. What does work might not be worth hassling with.

But if you want to use your fulltime version you can on the Desktop... right click... new... shortcut... browse... My Computer... C: drive... program file... Digitized Conductor... timebook.mde. After it is on the screen... right click... properties... change icon... browse to same folder and you'll see it.

"Can I use this on my hand-held?"

NO. There are Access Add-ons for your handheld but how they would work this program is iffy. We are building a Hand Held Version from the ground up that will communicate totally with the PC Version. Expected launch date is early 2007... if not earlier.

"When I do a pay period report, my ending date doesn't show up in the report?"

Always make sure you save that last day before running the report. Sometime you may have to add 1 day to your Ending Date, e.g. if you want 2/1/06 as ending date... move it up to 2/2/06.
